Starbucks Cup Sizes Explained

Starbucks has five cup sizes: Short (8 fl oz), Tall (12 fl oz), Grande (16 fl oz), Venti (20 fl oz hot or 24 fl oz iced) and Trenta (30 fl oz). Not every drink comes in every size. Short is for hot drinks, Trenta is only for select iced drinks, and espresso is sold by the shot.

How calories scale with size
Bigger cups mean more milk and usually more pumps, so calories rise with size. Per starbucks.com:

Black coffee stays near zero at any size, while milk and sweetened drinks can more than double from Tall to Trenta.
How caffeine scales with size
Caffeine depends on shots or the amount of coffee, not on cup size alone:
- Hot espresso drinks: a Grande and a hot Venti Caffè Latte both have 2 shots (about 150 mg). A Short or Tall has 1 shot.
- Iced shaken espresso: 2 / 3 / 4 shots for Tall / Grande / Venti, so caffeine rises at each size.
- Cold Brew: about 155 mg Tall, 205 mg Grande, 310 mg Venti and 360 mg Trenta.
Tips
- If you want fewer calories but the same caffeine in a hot latte, a Grande has the same 2 shots as a hot Venti.
- Iced Venti is 4 fl oz bigger than hot Venti, and recipes often add a shot or extra pumps.
