Starbucks Syrup Calories per Pump
By Anirudh Saraya · Last checked:

Starbucks doesn't publish calories per pump of syrup. The most common estimate is about 20 calories and 5 g of sugar per pump of a standard syrup such as Vanilla, Classic, Caramel or Brown Sugar. Sauces like mocha and white chocolate are heavier. What Starbucks does publish is how many pumps go into each drink and size, which is below.
Per-pump estimates (unverified)
| Syrup or sauce | Calories per pump | Sugar per pump | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard syrups (Vanilla, Classic, Caramel, Hazelnut, Brown Sugar) | ~20 | ~5 g | Estimate, not published by Starbucks |
| Sugar-free vanilla | ~0 | ~0 g | Estimate |
| Sauces (Mocha, White Chocolate Mocha, Pumpkin Spice) | Likely higher than syrups | Likely higher than syrups | Not published; use the calculator |
| Honey (Honey Citrus Mint Tea) | Not published | Not published | Unverified |
The calculator uses these estimates only for the pumps you add or remove. The standard recipe totals come straight from starbucks.com.
Pumps by size: what Starbucks puts in each drink
These counts come from Starbucks' own recipe data (US menu, checked 2026-10-24).
| Drink | Syrup or sauce | Short | Tall | Grande | Venti |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blonde Vanilla Latte | Vanilla | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Caramel Macchiato (hot) | Vanilla | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Iced Caramel Macchiato | Vanilla | – | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| Pumpkin Spice Latte (hot) | Pumpkin spice sauce | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte | Pumpkin spice sauce | – | 3 | 4 | 6 |
| Hot Chocolate | Mocha sauce | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Iced Caffè Mocha | Mocha sauce | – | 3 | 4 | 6 |
| Iced White Chocolate Mocha | White chocolate sauce | – | 3 | 4 | 6 |
| London Fog Latte | Vanilla | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Iced Shaken Espresso | Classic | – | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso | Brown sugar | – | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Iced Pumpkin Cream Shaken Espresso | Brown sugar | – | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Iced Matcha Latte | Classic | – | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Iced Chai Latte | Chai concentrate | – | 3 | 4 | 6 |
| Caramel Frappuccino | Caramel syrup | – | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Mocha Frappuccino | Mocha sauce | – | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Chocolate Cream Cold Brew | Vanilla | – | 1 | 2 | 3 (Trenta 4) |
| Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew | Vanilla | – | 1 | 2 | 3 (Trenta 4) |
| Honey Citrus Mint Tea | Honey | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
Two patterns stand out. Iced Venti drinks (24 fl oz) often get an extra pump or two compared with a hot Venti (20 fl oz). Shaken espressos and the cold brews use fewer pumps than lattes.
Unsweetened by default: Cold Brew, Iced Coffee, Caffè Americano, Espresso, Iced Espresso, Caffè Latte, Cappuccino and Flat White. Any syrup in these is an add-on.
What fewer pumps saves (estimate)
Using the ~20 calories and ~5 g sugar estimate for a standard syrup:
| Change | Estimated saving |
|---|---|
| Grande Blonde Vanilla Latte, 4 → 2 pumps | ~40 calories, ~10 g sugar |
| Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato, 5 → 2 pumps | ~60 calories, ~15 g sugar |
| Grande Iced Shaken Espresso, 2 → 0 pumps | ~40 calories, ~10 g sugar |
| Any standard syrup → sugar-free vanilla | Close to all the syrup calories |
These savings are estimates. Use the Starbucks calorie calculator to see the change for your drink.
Tips
- Ask for a number of pumps ("2 pumps") rather than "less sweet", so you get the same drink each time.
- Sauced drinks also often come with whipped cream; skipping it usually saves more than one pump does.
- Read how the estimates work on how we calculate.

FAQs
How many calories are in one pump of Starbucks syrup?
Starbucks doesn't publish a per-pump figure. A widely used estimate is about 20 calories and 5 g of sugar per pump of a standard syrup such as Vanilla or Classic. Treat it as an estimate.
How many pumps of syrup are in a Grande?
It depends on the drink. Per Starbucks recipe data, a Grande Blonde Vanilla Latte gets 4 pumps, a Grande Caramel Macchiato 3 and a Grande Iced Shaken Espresso 2.
How many pumps are in a Venti iced drink?
Usually more than a hot Venti. For example, a Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato gets 5 pumps of vanilla against 4 in a hot Venti Caramel Macchiato, per Starbucks.
Is sugar-free vanilla syrup really zero calories?
It adds close to zero calories, which is why swapping to sugar-free vanilla is one of the easiest ways to cut sugar.
Do sauces have more calories than syrups?
Sauces such as mocha, white chocolate mocha and pumpkin spice are thicker than syrups and are commonly estimated to be higher per pump. Starbucks doesn't publish per-pump numbers for them, so treat any figure as an estimate.
What is the easiest way to cut sugar at Starbucks?
Ask for fewer pumps. Halving the pumps in a sweetened Grande removes a large part of the added sugar while keeping the flavor.
